SCOTUS and Public Education: A Blockbuster Term

It’s hard to overstate the importance of the October 2024 SCOTUS term for public education. When the justices sign off for the summer recess, they will have handed down four decisions directly affecting public school operations: E-rate funding, parent rights to curricular opt-outs, liability for disability discrimination, and religious charter schools. In the meantime, they will have addressed key issues affecting education indirectly: whether gender identity-related medical care is a sex-based classification invoking heightened scrutiny, whether Article III judges constitutionally may issue “universal” injunctions, whether birthright citizenship may be challenged, and more. We’ll review the Court’s term, its rulings, and their implications – with help from you. Come with your thoughts and questions.
