How School Attorneys and SBOs Can Partner to Support Students and Mitigate Legal and Financial Risk in the Current Climate
Federal funding streams for public education face mounting uncertainty, putting pressure on district budgets, compliance obligations, and the ability to meet student needs. As school districts and states face the risk of federal funding withdrawal in the wake of program reviews or civil rights investigations, it’s important for school leaders to be able to accurately assess risk and plan for any likely shortfall in federal funding. This joint webinar, designed for both school business officials and school attorneys, will provide:
Attendees will leave with practical tools and a shared approach to navigate funding volatility while protecting their districts’ fiscal health and mission.

Take a Breath: Ethics Tips from a Toddler Parent
Just like new parents, school law attorneys have been through it over the past year+. Waiting for change, processing change, and then responding to change at the federal, state, and local levels can cause (and has caused!) significant distress for attorneys professionally and personally. Adjusting to so much change all at once is a challenge. In this one-hour ethics session, attendees will consider how some of life’s lessons outside of the law – such as parenting a toddler – transfer to our duties to serve our clients with diligence and competence (even if they refuse to follow our advice and eat their vegetables).

Building a Defensible Record: Advising School Officials on Effective Staff Evaluations
Accurate, constructive staff evaluations are critical to both employee growth and sound school district decision-making. This webinar will equip school district counsel to guide administrators in developing and documenting performance evaluations that serve dual purposes: supporting employee improvement and creating a reliable record for any future employment action. Our presenter will discuss best practices for aligning evaluations with district policy and collective bargaining agreements, identifying and describing performance issues objectively, and ensuring the evaluation process withstands legal scrutiny. Participants will gain practical strategies to help school officials draft clear, evidence-based evaluations that protect both the educator’s rights and the district’s interests.
